Privacy Policy

Last updated:

We wrote this in plain English. The short version is at the top. The full text is numbered below. If anything is unclear, that's on us — email hello@sidekicksitter.com and we'll fix it.

This is a working document. Sidekick Sitter is in pre-launch. We update this policy as the platform grows. Your continued use after an update means you accept the updated version.

The short version

  • What we collect. Your account info, what you tell us about your kid so a sitter knows how to show up, your bookings, and your payments. Sitters give us their identity, background-check results, and a 2-minute intro video.
  • Why we collect it. To run the platform — match families with sitters, take payments, pay sitters, keep everyone safe, and answer your questions.
  • Who sees it. Our team. The sitter you book sees what they need for that booking. A small set of vendors helps us run hosting, payments, and background checks. We do not sell your information.
  • Your kid's profile is sensitive. We treat it that way. Admin reads of child information are logged.
  • How to reach us. Email hello@sidekicksitter.com for any privacy question, a copy of your data, or to delete your account. We read everything and we'll get back to you when we can.

The numbered sections below are the full text. Skim the headings; read what matters to you.

1. Who we are and how to reach us

Sidekick Sitter is operated by Sidekick Sitter LLC (“Sidekick Sitter,” “we,” or “us”). We connect families in the Treasure Valley with vetted off-duty sitters for date nights, family events, and the hours you need. We serve Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Eagle, Idaho.

For any question about this policy, your information, or to make a privacy request, email hello@sidekicksitter.com. Our mailing address and phone are in Section 14.

We're a small team and we read everything. We'll get back to you when we can — usually quickly, but we don't promise a window.

2. About our sitters

This section clarifies who controls the information on the platform. Sidekick Sitter is the controller of your data. The sitters listed on the platform are not controllers of your data — they receive only what they need to show up for a booking, when they are matched with you.

Sitters listed on Sidekick Sitter are independent contractors, not employees of Sidekick Sitter LLC or Sidekick Sitter. They are off-duty professionals — a registered behavior technician, direct support professional, paraeducator, or special education teacher in their day job — who choose to spend personal hours as a qualified sitter through this platform. Sitters do not perform their day-job work through Sidekick Sitter. They provide companionship and supervision only. They do not deliver applied behavior analysis, behavior plans, habilitation, special education instruction, IEP supports, or therapeutic services through this platform. They do not administer medications. They do not write session notes or progress logs. They are not supervised by their day-job employer when working as a sitter through us.

Sidekick Sitter is the data controller for everything you put on the platform. Sitters see only what they need to know for the booking, when they need to know it. We decide what that is.

3. What we collect

We collect what we need to run the platform. Nothing more. Here is what that means in six categories.

(a) Family principal account

  • Your full name, email, and phone number
  • Your household address in the Treasure Valley
  • A photo ID you upload so we can confirm who you are before your first booking
  • The status of a sex-offender registry check we run on the primary account holder
  • Optional: emergency contacts, household notes, and an avatar image

(b) Children in your household

You tell us about your kid so a sitter can show up ready. You decide what goes in. Only you, our admin team, and the sitter you book can see this information. Admin reads are logged.

  • Preferred name and age
  • What's helpful to know about your kid
  • Calming preferences
  • Sensory notes
  • Communication style
  • Allergies
  • A list of medications — display only. Sitters do not administer medications. This field exists so a sitter knows what is in the home, not so they can give anything.
  • Sibling notes

(c) Sitter account

  • Full name and contact information
  • Day-job credential (RBT, DSP, paraeducator, special education teacher, or background-checked sitter) and years of experience
  • Two references — called by a real person on our team
  • Background-check results from our screening vendor
  • A 2-minute self-recorded intro video, reviewed before listing
  • Stripe Connect KYC information for payouts (name, date of birth, address, tax ID)
  • Availability, travel radius, and age-range preferences

(d) Bookings

  • Date, time, and length of each booking
  • The address where the booking happens (defaults to your home)
  • Special instructions you add for the sitter
  • Check-in and check-out timestamps (geo-confirmed at the booking address)
  • Ratings and comments you and the sitter write afterward
  • Any incident reports tied to the booking

(e) Payments

  • Stripe payment intents for bookings and one-time fees
  • Stripe subscription invoices for memberships
  • For sitters, Stripe Connect transfers for payouts
  • The amount, status, and reason for each charge or payout

Card numbers and bank account numbers stay with Stripe. We see only the last four digits and a token that lets us reference the charge.

(f) Device and usage

  • Your IP address
  • Browser and device type
  • Pages you visit on the site and when
  • First-party session cookies that keep you signed in. We don't run third-party advertising trackers. More on this in Section 11.

We may collect additional information as the platform develops. When we do, we'll update this list. By continuing to use the platform after we update, you agree to the updated practices.

4. Why we collect each category

  • Family account. So we know who you are, can confirm you're a real person before your first booking, and can reach you about a booking. The sex-offender registry check is part of how we keep sitters safe.
  • Children's information. So a sitter knows how to show up for your kid. You tell us what matters; we pass only what's needed to the sitter you book.
  • Sitter account. So we can verify the sitter, list them honestly, pay them, and decide who can take a booking.
  • Bookings. To run the match, send reminders, confirm check-in and check-out, calculate the charge and payout, and review anything that didn't go right.
  • Payments. To charge you for what you book and pay the sitter who showed up. To meet our tax and audit obligations.
  • Device and usage. To keep the site running, sign you in, prevent fraud, and understand which pages are working. Not for selling or for advertising.

We also use the information we collect to operate the platform, improve our service, prevent fraud, defend ourselves in disputes, comply with law, and develop new features.

5. How long we keep it

We keep what we need for as long as we reasonably need it. Here's the general picture.

InformationHow long we keep it
Family and sitter account dataWhile your account is active, and for as long as we reasonably need it after you delete it — typically at least 3 years, sometimes longer, to handle disputes, refunds, incident review, and our records
Children's profile dataDeleted with the family account when we are able to delete it, subject to the other rows in this table
Payment and payout recordsAt least 7 years (tax and audit requirements), sometimes longer
Background-check reportsPer our screening vendor's retention schedule, plus as long as we reasonably need a copy for our records
Sitter intro videoFor as long as the sitter is listed; after that, until we no longer reasonably need it
Audit log of admin readsAt least 7 years
Incident reportsAt least 7 years, and longer if there's any chance of a claim

We may keep some information longer when required by law, to defend or pursue legal claims, or to enforce these and our other policies.

6. Who we share it with

We share your information with the sitter you book (only what they need, only when they need it) and with the vendors below who help us run the platform. We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising.

VendorWhat they doWhat we send
SupabaseHosts our database, sign-in, and file storageAll account data, child profile data, booking records, and uploaded files (photo IDs, intro videos). Stored with row-level security.
StripeProcesses payments and sitter payoutsYour name, email, billing address, and card info (entered on Stripe's form, never on ours). For sitters, the KYC information Stripe Connect requires.
CheckrRuns sitter background checksThe sitter's name, date of birth, and identifiers required for a national criminal background check
[Email provider TBD]Sends transactional and marketing emailYour name, email address, and the contents of messages we send you
[SMS provider TBD]Sends booking reminders and confirmations by textYour name, phone number, and the contents of texts

Each vendor signs an agreement that limits what they can do with your information. They can only use it to provide the service we hired them for.

We work with other service providers from time to time. We may add or change sub-processors without advance notice. We'll update the list above when we do. We may also share information with affiliates, successors, and acquirers in connection with a business transition. We disclose information when required by law, in response to lawful process, to enforce our rights, or to protect users.

7. Children's information

Our service is for parents and guardians. Children are not account holders. No part of this site is directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information directly from a child.

A parent or guardian may add information about a child to their family profile so a sitter can show up ready. This is sensitive information. We treat it that way:

  • Only the parent or guardian who entered the information, the sitter the family books (within the booking window), and our admin team can see it.
  • Disability-related and health-related fields about a child — including allergies, medication lists, sensory notes, communication style, and helpful-to-know notes — are treated as restricted information. Every time a member of our admin team reads these fields, that read is recorded in our audit log.
  • We do not use a child's information to market to anyone. We do not share it for advertising. We do not sell it.
  • You can update or delete a child's profile at any time from your dashboard, or by emailing hello@sidekicksitter.com.

We are not a covered entity under HIPAA. Disability-related and health-related information you give us is sensitive, and we treat it carefully — but it is not protected health information in the HIPAA sense. You decide what to put in your child's profile. What you decide to share with a sitter through a booking is your call.

8. Communications consent

We send two kinds of messages. You can opt in or out of each one separately.

Transactional

Booking confirmations, sitter assignments, reminders, payment receipts, account alerts, and incident follow-ups. These are part of using the service. If you have an active account, you receive them. If you want to stop receiving them, close your account.

Marketing

New features, occasional updates, and tips for families. We only send marketing email or texts to people who opt in. You can opt out at any time:

  • Email: click the “unsubscribe” link in any marketing email, or change your preferences from your account settings.
  • SMS: reply STOP to any marketing text to opt out, or HELP for help. Standard message and data rates apply.

Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional messages.

We try to honor opt-outs promptly. Standard messaging rates apply. We're not responsible for charges from your carrier.

9. Your rights

You can ask us to do any of the following with the information we hold about you:

  • Access. Get a copy of the information we have about you and your household.
  • Correction. Fix anything that's wrong.
  • Deletion. Delete your account and the information we hold, subject to the retention rules in Section 5 (some payment records we have to keep for tax and audit purposes).
  • Portability. Get your information in a common, machine-readable format.
  • Opt out of marketing. See Section 8.

To make a request, email hello@sidekicksitter.com from the address on your account. When you ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your data, we'll handle it as soon as we reasonably can. Some requests take longer than others. Where the law requires a specific timeline, we honor that timeline.

We may have to confirm your identity before we hand over a copy of your data, to keep it out of the wrong hands.

10. Security

We do the work to keep your information safe. That means:

  • Encryption at rest. Data in our database and in file storage is encrypted when it's sitting still.
  • Encryption in transit. Everything between your browser and our servers travels over TLS.
  • Row-level security. Supabase row-level security rules mean that one family's data is not visible to another family, and one sitter cannot see another sitter's data.
  • Audit logging. Every admin read of a child's restricted fields is recorded in an append-only audit log.
  • Access controls. Our team gets access only to what their role needs. Background-check reports and photo IDs are not visible to most of the team.
  • Breach notice. If your personal information is exposed in a security breach, we will notify you under Idaho Code §28-51-104. We aim to notify you faster than the statute requires.

No platform is perfectly secure. We do our best, and the law requires us to notify you if certain kinds of personal information are breached. But you provide information to us at your own risk, and we make no warranty that our systems are immune from compromise.

If you spot something that looks like a security issue, email hello@sidekicksitter.com and we will look at it.

11. Cookies and tracking

We use first-party session cookies. They keep you signed in and remember a few preferences. That's it.

We do not run third-party advertising trackers. We do not share your browsing information with ad networks. We do not build a profile of you to sell.

We use a small amount of first-party analytics to understand which pages are working, but the data we look at is aggregated and not used to identify you.

You can clear cookies in your browser at any time. Signing out will end your session.

We may add analytics and similar tools as the platform grows. When we do, we'll update this section. Continued use after the update means you accept the change.

12. Geographic scope

We serve the Treasure Valley in IdahoBoise, Meridian, Nampa, Eagle. Our servers and our vendors are based in the United States.

If you visit the site from somewhere else, this policy still applies to your interaction with the site. We don't offer bookings outside the Treasure Valley right now.

We operate in the Treasure Valley, Idaho. By using the platform you agree that Idaho law governs your relationship with us, and that any dispute will be brought in Ada County, Idaho.

13. Changes to this policy

We may change this policy at any time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. When the change is material, we'll do our reasonable best to give notice in the platform — but continued use after an update means you accept the updated version.

15. If a piece of this doesn't hold up

If any part of this policy is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. This policy is part of the agreements that govern your use of the platform. The Family Terms of Service and the Sitter Independent Contractor Agreement (where they exist) control over this policy if there's a conflict.
